Solar PV

Robert Price, South Wales’ largest independent builders’ merchants, have joined forces with the Wiltshire based manufacturer, Grant UK, to offer a range of Solar Photovoltaic systems.

A Solar Photovoltaic system, or Solar PV as it is commonly known, is a ‘renewable’ technology, which uses modules, typically installed onto a properties roof, to convert energy from the sun into electricity, which can be used domestically to reduce energy bills.

The Government’s new Feed-in Tariff (FiT) will also pay 43.3p for each kWh produced, as an incentive for people to switch to renewable technologies in the home, helping the UK to lessen its carbon footprint and meet the 2020 emissions target. Feed-in Tariffs are index linked and guaranteed for 25 years.

The combination of reduced energy bills and an income from the Feed-in Tariff means that the payback time for a ten module system is between eight and ten years! Once the capital cost of the system is paid for, everything you generate and receive as payback is income.

Solar PV can be confusing, involving numerous calculations, legislations, manufacturers and installers. To simplify the process of purchasing a Solar PV system, Robert Price have developed a ‘supply and fit’ offer, enabling customers to purchase complete systems, designed to suit their property and budget, and have it fitted by an MCS accredited installer, ensuring that they qualify for the Feed-in Tariff.

Solar PV systems can be installed onto most properties, using a simple rail system, which works with a variety of slates and tiles.

Staff at Robert Price will arrange for an installer to conduct a free, no-obligation survey to assess the suitability of the property. The initial survey is an opportunity to discuss the features and benefits of Solar PV in greater detail, define a system specification and identify any necessary property amendments, prior to starting work.

Once installed, the Solar PV system will increase the energy efficiency of the property, decrease dependency on mains energy and generate a long-term financial return of approximately 10% of the initial investment per year.

Julian Williams, product manager for Robert Price (B.M.) Ltd, commented:  “Robert Price have successfully incorporated new technologies throughout its 164 year history. Solar PV is the latest addition to our range of ‘renewables’, which also includes solar thermal, ground and air source heat pumps and rainwater harvesting.

“Our Solar PV systems are supplied by the Wiltshire based manufacturer, Grant UK, who have an excellent reputation for design and quality.

“The Government subsidised Feed-in Tariff (FiT) has made Solar PV a realistic investment opportunity, offering a shorter payback term for the initial investment and significant long-term returns.”
