Learning disability charity overjoyed with their new wheelchair access ramp

Last spring, Robert Price Builders’ Merchants donated materials to a learning disability support charity in Pontypool, so that they could improve the disabled access at a local social club. We’re now delighted to be able to share the pictures with you of the finished result!

Cartrefi Cymru Cooperative acquired the Greenway social club in Griffithstown, after a number of people they support wanted to start a community-based hub where they could play games, listen to music and take part in arts and crafts.

Proving popular, the club quickly grew to 35 members shortly after opening, however, poor access for wheelchair users meant that some were unable to get to the venue. Despite lots of fundraising to secure funds, the not for profit organisation were struggling to find the amount required for a new wheelchair accessible ramp.

Nicola Ball, service manager at Cartrefi Cymru Cooperative, says that they were overjoyed when Robert Price offered to donate the materials for free early last year.

“We asked Robert Price to see if they could help us out with our project and to everyone’s delight, they supplied all the materials for free!” she said.

“We couldn’t be more grateful to them for their contribution. Without their donation of building materials, it would have been impossible to get the ramp done so quickly. Everyone is thrilled to bits and so many new friendships were made as a result.”

Molly Pike, our Marketing Manager at Robert Price, has also commented on her delight that the project was such a success:

“I’m so pleased we were able to provide materials which have so easily provided a real change for this community group. In terms of materials, the ramp was a really simple donation, but even a simple gift can go a long way to making a difference where it is needed. I’m thrilled to see the work completed and hope that the Co-op goes from strength to strength in the future.”
