Planning departments can take up to 12 weeks to make a decision, so it could be an obstacle if you\u2019re ready to build. All your invoices will be recoverable should you need them for your VAT claim at the end of the build, and by working with a dedicated account manager, you\u2019ll have a product expert on hand for any advice required. It should also break down the costs into schedule sections to assist with your spend timeline. Unsure where to start? Speak to your merchant account manager, who\u2019ll be able to talk you through the process. It\u2019s also a good idea to book a site visit with your merchant account manager as early as possible. However, avoid leaving your ordering to the last minute as this could delay progress and inevitably set back completion. Find the right balance and discuss potential product lead time and product storage requirements with your material supplier. Protect your finances<\/h3>\n<p>A lot of money goes into a self-build or renovation project, so it is important to cover yourself in case something goes wrong. Self-builds require alternative insurance to domestic buildings or contents insurance, so make sure you purchase a specialist self-build insurance that includes full contractor cover. A structural warranty that covers the initial 10 years of your new build will also likely be required in order to take out a mortgage.
