Robert Price Donation Helps Improve Outdoor Space for the 28th Newport Scout Group
At Robert Price Builders’ Merchants, we’re always proud to support local initiatives that help build stronger communities across South Wales – especially when they directly benefit young people and local families.
One of our recent community projects was with the 28th Newport Scout Group, who are transforming a neglected site in Rogerstone into a much-needed community hub.

A Community Hub in the Making
The 28th Newport Scout Group recently acquired the former St Anne’s Church and church hall in High Cross, Rogerstone, with the help of major lottery funding.
The building had been unused for years, but the group is now transforming it into a vibrant, multi-use community hub. As part of the agreement to purchase the site, the Scouts committed to making it accessible for wider community use.
Today, the hall welcomes around 500 local people each week, hosting everything from birthday parties and Pilates classes to Girl Guides, children’s cookery workshops, Tae-Kwondo sessions, and a charity-funded group supporting people with learning disabilities.
Tackling an Overgrown Outdoor Space
Inside, huge progress has been made – including a brand-new kitchen installed with the support of local businesses. But outside, the grounds told a different story.
A large, overgrown hedge ran along the site’s perimeter, creating ongoing maintenance headaches and preventing the outdoor space from being fully safe and accessible for the many groups who use it.

How Robert Price Helped
As a local builders’ merchant in Newport, we were pleased to step in and offer our support. Our Newport Maesglas branch donated high-quality fence panels to replace the overgrown hedge.
This simple change has made the outdoor space more secure, low-maintenance, and safer for all. Most importantly, it allows the Scout Group to spend less time trimming hedges and more time focusing on delivering great experiences to the community.

What’s Next for the Scout Group
With safer outdoor grounds and ongoing renovation inside, the 28th Newport Scout Group is well on its way to creating a thriving community hub that will serve families across Rogerstone and beyond.
At Robert Price, we’re proud to have played a part in this inspiring project. As a long-established family-run builders’ merchant in South Wales, we remain committed to supporting local charities, schools, and community groups.
We can’t wait to see what comes next for the 28th Newport Scout Group and the positive impact they’ll continue to have on the Newport community!
