Robert Price takes part in Careers Wales Green Week 2022
South Wales-based builders’ merchants, Robert Price, have participated in Green Week 2022 earlier this year, an initiative organised by Careers Wales and The One Newport Partnership.
The online event that took place from the 21st – 25th March for secondary schools across Newport aimed to inform young people of sustainable job sectors and the types of careers that are developing in these areas.
Throughout the week, Robert Price hosted the ‘Carbon Net Zero in Construction’ webinar where they discussed Carbon Net Zero and the challenges faced for the construction industry. The webinar also educated pupils about the construction supply chain, where builders’ merchants sit within this and the career opportunities that can be found within the sector.
Robert Price organised interactive activities for the pupils to work on throughout the session, giving them a further insight into construction. These activities educated the young people on Carbon Net Zero in construction and encouraged participation and further discussion.
The pupils were encouraged to give their own insight and share ideas about how the industry can improve to achieve the goal of Carbon Net Zero.
Commenting on the event, Molly Pike, Marketing Director at Robert Price said:
“We were thrilled to participate in Careers Wales’ Green Week initiative. The pupils provided some fantastic input and concepts for the team at Robert Price to take back to their energy team at the Sustainable Energy Centre – a dedicated showroom and training academy based at Robert Price Newport.”
The sessions were run by Victoria Burston-Yates from Careers Wales. Talking about the event, Victoria added:
“The Newport Green Sector Careers Week was a great event showcasing the Green Sector careers in a wide variety of companies across the county. Over 50% of the Newport schools attended the live sessions and recordings will be made available to all schools in the Newport and surrounding areas. The Labour Market Information shared during the week gave students great insights into pathways in education and the current skill shortages in industry.
Robert Price supported this week with an interactive workshop that viewers could engage with effectively. The session highlighted that all aspects of industry need to adapt and change their working practices to address the Green Agenda.”
Carbon Net Zero is the goal that many construction companies are working towards. It means that the amount of carbon emissions used in building and construction is zero or negative through offsets or on-site renewable energy sources.
