Backing Local Sport: Supporting Pill Harriers RFC’s Changing Room Refurbishment
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting local communities across South Wales, Robert Price Builders’ Merchant recently donated a large quantity of building materials to Pill Harriers RFC in Newport — helping the club refurbish and expand their changing room facilities.
Founded in 1981, Pill Harriers RFC is a proud community rugby club based in Pillgwenlly (Pill). Over the years, the club has grown steadily, now running three men’s teams and reintroducing youth sides for the upcoming season. Beyond sport, the club plays an important role in the local community — offering a welcoming space for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together, stay active, and enjoy the social and mental health benefits of team sport.
Improving Facilities for a Growing Club
With a growing membership, the club’s existing facilities were struggling to keep up with demand. Limited changing space meant that all three men’s teams, and now the returning youth teams, were having to share the same area on match days. The facilities had become outdated and no longer met the needs of players, coaches, and visitors.

Working Together to Make It Happen
When we heard about the club’s refurbishment plans, we were delighted to get involved. Robert Price provided a significant donation of building materials to help the project move forward.
This was a true community effort, with additional support from Hedyn Housing Association and Davies Contractors Ltd, who carried out the refurbishment works. Together, the partnership made it possible for Pill Harriers RFC to deliver much-needed improvements that will benefit players and supporters for years to come.
The Result
With the refurbishment now complete, Pill Harriers RFC has a much more functional and welcoming environment for everyone who uses the facilities. The upgrades will:
- Provide dedicated changing areas for all three men’s teams.
- Support the launch of new youth teams, encouraging more young people to get involved in sport.
- Improve match-day organisation and the overall experience for players, staff, and visitors.
- Help the club continue its competitive success, including strong recent performances in the Welsh Cup.
These upgrades will make a lasting difference to the club and the Pill community, offering improved facilities for current members and inspiring the next generation of local talent.
